I possess a Registered Nursing certificate from Nigeria with a degree in Bachelor of Nursing Science. I started working as a
nurse
in my final year after passing my board exam. After graduation, I proceeded to do the compulsory one-year internship program for graduate
nurses
in my country. I interned with Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa under the Ministry of
Health
, Bayelsa state. During my time as an intern
nurse
, I reported to the

-in-charge of each ward I was posted to, I taught and supervised student
nurses
who came for clinical posting.
Experience
I have about two years
experience
of working in challenging and work-intensive healthcare environments. I've worked in 36bedded medical and surgical wards, I've
also
worked in pediatric wards, hospitals and special
care
babies units. During
this
period, I was in charge of the ward a few times,which involved prioritizing the
care
of patients, delegating to other
nurses
,
health
care
assistants and student
nurses
. I have had to deal with various situations
such
as being the cover
nurse
during a case of hypoglycemia in a preteen which was resolved successfully.I have an excellent relationship with the wider
health
care
team including medical teams, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. I
also
have
experience
in planning and organizing patient discharges, coordinating take-home medications and arranging for transportation home. My
experience
has enabled me to maintain clinical
skills
in many areas including medicine management (administering parenteral and enteral medications), wound management, monitoring of blood glucose levels, the use of nursing process and
care
plan to carry out procedures for optimum
care
. Knowledge,
Skills
and Understanding I believe I have excellent communication
skills
and have always been able to handle challenging situations. On one occasion at my current job, when I had to deal sensitively with a patient who was upset about his present treatment regimen and how he doesn't feel better even after seeing the medical team. I went up to the patient's bedside, listened to him verbalise his concerns; after which I counselled and reassured him
