Write about the following topic: Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The ability to speak different languages could help to prevent unnecessary
problems
. Some
people
believe that if a person has to speak a foreign
language
in a country that he/she lives in, may lead to many social and practical
problems
. In
this
essay, I will explain why I strongly agree with it as I believe
this
would cause many issues for them.
To begin
with, it is irrefutable that being unable to speak the local
language
may lead to many social
problems
. When foreign nationals live in some countries where locals do not speak English, they have to speak the local
language
to communicate with local
people
which cause many issues for them if they are unable to speak the
language
properly.
For instance
, since there are some countries where the locals expect everyone to speak their
language
, failure to speak it fluently and understandable way may cause unwanted conflicts between locals and foreigners as they consider it as a disrespect for their culture. Because of
this
reason, if a person has to speak a non-native
language
in a foreign country, it may cause serious social
problems
.
Furthermore
,
this
also
causes some practical
problems
if foreigners cannot speak the local
language
properly. Since it would take considerable time to learn a non-native
language
, they would go through some practical issues while they are learning it.
For instance
, if a foreigner goes to a market where
people
can bargain and buy products for a lower price, some foreigners cannot do it as they lack
language
skills whereas
people
who mastered the
language
can easily communicate and purchase products for a lower price. Since it would take much time to master a foreign
language
, they have to struggle to use it while they are learning. In summary, speaking a foreign
language
would give more benefits for
people
. If a person has to live in a country where he/she has to use a non-native
language
, I strongly believe that
this
could lead to many difficulties
such
as social and practical
problems
.
