You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter explain why you would like the job give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing
this
letter with reference to your advertisement in the magazine for a
job
for six months which includes taking care of your child and living at your place. I believe that I could be the best caregiver for your child. My name is Farhana Jabeen and I am an exchange student pursuing my master’s degree in nutrition in Australia and was looking for new accommodation and
job
. I would like to provide a few details about me which would suggest that I would be a suitable candidate for
this
role. I was previously employed in a daycare facility and my primary
job
was to take care of children around the age of 4-6.
In addition
to
this
, I have immense knowledge in terms of nutrients required for a child's growth.
Although
I was unable to continue my previous employment as it was quite far from my university, I have been seeking a similar
job
for quite some time and was delighted that
this
place is closer to my campus. My classes are scheduled three times a week, I have a lot of free time that I spend on gardening.
Additionally
, I would love to explore
this
beautiful country and learn more about the people's lifestyle during the
next
few months here in Australia. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Please feel free to contact me if you need
further
details and recommendations. Yours faithfully, Farhana Jabeen

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
