Early Covid-19 Uncertainty in Africa was not very bad but still uncertain. What where some of the narratives of hope and hopelessness discussed by African Students in Hong Kong? Do you think that Governments had what it takes to resolve the crisis?

The uncertain onset of the Covid-19 pandemic stimulated increased and frequent communication between the people in Africa and their relatives abroad. Several African students in Hong Kong shared with me a wealth of firsthand and up-to-date information on the opinions and experiences of their families, friends and societies. In

paper, I use a dozen interviews with some of these students to document their notions of hope and hopelessness concerning African countries during the pandemic. They highlighted that Africa, despite being hit moderately, sat far behind richer countries in terms of its capacity to handle the epidemic effectively, but that hope could be consequential in the everyday practices of people responding to the socio-economic effects of the virus. Their wishes were that a vaccine may soon be found and extended to Africa; that their societies may realize the seriousness of the pandemic; and that through their stay abroad, they may be useful sources of information and material resources etc. I argue that since Covid-19 is transnational, studying mobile populations gives a better grasp of a panoramic view of the African experience.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
