Learning English at school is often seen as more important than learning local languages. if these are not taught, many are at risk of dying out. in your opinion, is it important for everyone to learn English? Should we try to ensure the survival of local languages and, if so, how?

English
is a global language. Not only is it spoken in large parts of the world, but it is
also
the primary language of computing, the internet and, almost all other technical subjects.
Thus
, we would at a disadvantage, by not learning it. While we learn it, we should pay attention to our mother
tongue
too. It roots us and, is a treasure trove of ancient wisdom. So, it is
also
important to ensure the survival of the local
languages
. I believe that there is enough space available to learn and imbibe everything. The widespread use of
English
started with the spread of the British Empire. The empire spread to all the corners of the world, and so did the usage of its native
tongue
. Those were
also
the days of Enlightenment when revolutionary scientific ideas and ideals of democracy and freedom were born. These ideas spread far and wide due to the commonality of the
English
language
,

and helped many people.
For example
, today all computing and financial transactions are necessarily done in
English
.
Hence
, it is important for everybody to be abreast of it. Having said that, the local dialects have an ancient origin. The knowledge of the ages has been documented and transferred to the present generation by these
languages
. A case to the point is Sanskrit. India is an ancient culture and, a lot of important knowledge on astronomy, medicine, arts and literature has been documented in Sanskrit.
This
is
also
true for the native
tongue
of the Red Indians and the Amazonian tribes. So, how can we preserve the local dialects and at the same time master
English
? We should teach children in their mother
tongue
till grade 5, and
then
switch to
English
when they handle more technical subjects of math, science or finance. We should
also
actively fund academic research on local
languages
, and disseminate the information.
Further
, we should try to translate all technical literature from
English
to the mother
tongue
. In
this
way, we can carve out a happy co-existence of all
languages
.
