one of the consequences of improved medical care is that people are living longer and life expectancy is increasing. Do you think advantages outweigh disadvantages?

In recent years, medical
care
advancement improves the well being of
people
and make
people
have greater longevity than before. In
this
essay, I will discuss the drawback and benefits of the situation and explain why I think it has more negative impacts than positive ones on us. Regarding the benefits side, one of the obvious impacts on
people
is the enjoyment of
life
.
People
have greater longevity means that they have more years to live after their retirement.
Therefore
, they can spend more time with their family or do what they like to do which they are not able to do during their work
life
.
For example
, travelling around the world with their spouse.
Furthermore
, other than having more leisure time,
people
can share their expertise, professional experience and knowledge with young ones. It is beneficial to the youth and
society
. Focusing on the drawbacks, one of the disadvantages of the situation is the medical
care
burden. Admittedly, old
people
require more medical
care
. If
people
have a longer
life
expectancy in
society
, it requires more resources on medical
care
,
such
as hospitals, day-
care
centres etc.
Thus
, resources for other areas in
society
will
then
be decreased. What is more, Generally, most countries have old-aged support systems. Take Hong Kong as an example, the seniors have concessions on travelling and monthly cash allowance.
Hence
, longer
life
expectancy leads to population ageing which will increase the financial burden of
society
. In conclusion,
although
longevity brings advantages to
people
whom they can have more time to enjoy
life
, it increases the pressure on the resources and finance of
society
. It may detrimental to
society
in the long run, if we do not adjust the patterns of taxation and senior benefits system.
