A Museum Near your home is looking for people to do part-time voluntary / unpaid work. You would like to do some voluntary / unpaid work at the museum. Write a letter to the museum director to apply for the voluntary / unpaid work. In your letter - explain why you want to do voluntary / unpaid work at the museum - describe some skills and qualities you have that would be useful - give details of when you would be available for work

I am writing
this
letter to apply for part-time voluntary work at your museum. Since childhood, I have been extremely passionate about helping people around me. I have read more about your museum in the newspaper and on your website. From it, I was inspired to do voluntary work for your museum, and I realized that helping other people gives me more satisfaction in life. Currently, I am an Accountant at Shreeji Trading Corporation, and I have enough knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping so I can manage your accounting and bookkeeping. I have enough knowledge about how to use the computer with the internet so it will save your time. As I mentioned before that I am working now, but I will work at Shreeji Trading Corporation as a part-time Accountant from the
next
month, so without any delays, I would like to commence volunteering from the
next
month, and I believe the time is valuable so I would like to make every day count. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, Parth Patel.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
