In the future, all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. the only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers. Do you think that the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?

It has been argued that future generations will be experiencing technological advancements, in which the only people inside cars, buses, and trucks, will be there as passengers. The purpose of
this
essay is to discuss why I am inclined to the view that the benefits of
this
technology do not seem to prevail over the drawbacks. One of the more salient downsides of having transportation without
drivers
is that it might increase the number of accidents. The reason behind
this
is that when a vehicle is driven by machines,
instead
of humans, the human responses to an unpredictable event is removed;
hence
, the machine might not be able to process a response in time to avoid an accident. A good illustration is the recent rise in collisions of cars reported, where
drivers
have admitted to being using the automatic pilot of their cars before the incident. An additional disadvantage of driverless vehicles is that many people might lose their jobs due to the fact that it may not be necessary to have them drive.
For example
, many taxi
drivers
or people who drive public transport will not be needed anymore.
Thus
,
this
condition may force them to look for another possibility of income.
However
, there are benefits that cannot be ignored, one of which is the reduction in cost to
companies
. As there is no necessity to have
drivers
in buses and trucks
companies
will be able to save money related to their salaries. In fact, many
companies
suggest that the highest cost for them regarding their product is in terms of transportation and legal rights of
drivers
. In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that the downsides of automatic-driver vehicles in terms of the loss of human response to an event and the increasing unemployment seems to predominate over the gains
such
as reduction in the costs for
companies
. Given
this
situation, it seems that technological advancements must be carefully considered in
this
area before being put into use.
