You paid a refundable deposit when you rented an apartment. You left the apartment in good condition but the Landlord won't return your deposit. Write a letter to the landlord. In your letter • explain why you are writing • ask for the return of your deposit • inform the landlord of possible legal action

Dear Ganesh, I’m writing
this
letter to let know that to get my deposit amount. I reminded you many times over call still you aren’t responding properly. I have been renting in your home for over 6 years and we will know each other very well. I gave your apartment in good condition and you don’t need to spend any amount on it. Every month I paid my rent on the due date without fail even though I was in a critical situation. Presently, I’m really struggling a lot and shortage of funds due to a huge investment in my new building. You could understand my current situation. As you know very well my friend Sasi suggested I take the legal proceedings. There is a regulation that the Landlord should repay the deposit amount within 30 days if there is no damage to the property. When looking into that it's already crossed 60 days in our case. Hope to get a positive response from your end. Regards Karthi

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
