You are studying English at a private language school attended by many international students. You are planning a surprise birthday party for a friend who has been feeling particularly sad and homesick. Write to another classmate and invite him / her to the party. In your letter: • explain the reason for the party • give the date and time of the party • suggest what the classmate could bring to the party

Dear John, Hope you are doing fine! How is my country treating you? I hope you are not facing any significant troubles adjusting to
this
new environment like Malia. Talking about Malia, since the
last
few days, she has been quite sad and homesick.
Although
she is in constant touch with her parents, it doesn’t seem to make any difference. So, to cheer her up and to forward our support, I am planning to organise a party tomorrow night, i.e. 25th November 2021, at 7 pm. I am inviting other classmates as well. It would be great if you could be a part of
this
small get-together. To contribute, you can bring something to eat, especially a famous food item from your own culture. I have asked others to do the same, so we can introduce one another to our own cultures. Looking forward to your positive input and response. Warm Regards, Shamita

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
