Some people say that economic growth is the only way to end world poverty and hunger. Others say that economic growth is damaging the environment and should stop. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

? Many
people
would utter a "yes" with no hesitation. Undeniably, there's some truth in the classic saying that " money makes the world go around" since supporters applaud the fact that economic progression, by and large, equates to the ability to eradicate underdevelopment and famine.
However
, opponents express deep concern about its detrimental influence on the earth and propose stopping the economic development. In my opinion, we should not pursue economic
growth
at the expense of environmental disruption. On the one hand, economic development plays an irreplaceable role in eliminating poverty and starvation. Just as Milton Friedman——a famous American economist——once said, "Historically nothing has worked better than economic
growth
in enabling societies to improve the life qualities of their members". Economic
growth
is the most effective way to pull
people
out of poverty and attain the goal of ample food.
This
is particularly noticeable in developing countries in the past few years. Take China
for example
. Since 1979, it has lifted over 450 million
people
out of poverty and successfully guaranteed that everyone was adequately fed. These achievements all resulted from the rapid economic
growth
from 1980 to 2010.
On the other hand
, economic
growth
does harm to our planet.
This
catastrophic destruction makes our planet suffer a lot. In Amazon Wild Forest,
people
cut down trees day and night in order to provide sufficient raw materials for the local paper mills.
This
crazy behaviour brought about fateful consequences: the dramatic decline in the number of trees.
As a result
, the loss of trees allowed for flooding, soil erosion, higher temperatures, and desertification to occur more rapidly and exponentially. In my opinion, I believe that economic development can really bring about the opportunities to embark on a more satisfying life.
However
, we shouldn't merely focus on its positive effects and become oblivious of the fact that extreme pursuit may exert an irretrievable impact on our planet.
