Some people think that only electric cars should be allowed on the road by 2040. Do you agree?

Transportation is a substantial source of global and local air pollution. Several new technologies hold promise for decreasing
this
pollution, including electric vehicles.
However
, I believe allowing only electric
cars
by 2040 is not a feasible goal as these
cars
are expensive and have social and environmental issues associated with their production. Purchasing an electric car is not cheap. Electric
cars
are not only expensive by themselves but are
also
rather complicated to maintain. Even if there would be analogues for Tesla, the most popular electro car company, they require an electrical charge, which surely costs more than a simple gasoline car. One must not forget that there are still many people in the world who do not have access to electricity even for their necessities.
Moreover
, not every country in the world has the funds and capacity to build electro-stations, which means, it would be very hard to force people to refuse ordinary
cars
. Electric
cars
may not produce tailpipe emissions, but they still contribute to emissions. EVs emit harmful gases when they are manufactured; a phenomenon sometimes referred to as ‘Carbon-leakage’. EVs may
also
source energy from a grid that uses fossil fuels which again contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Apart from the environmental ,
issues

there are many social concerns
such
as child labour, modern slavery and the undermining of land and water rights associated with the extraction of raw materials.
Thus
, the complete electrification of the transportation will mean a rise in environmental and human-rights violation risks. To conclude, despite their green credentials, electric
cars
have economic, environmental, and legal challenges that need to be addressed
first
. Presently, not even a single country meets the much-needed capital expenditure to keep pace if the aggressive target of 2040 is set.
