in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. At

glance, the highest percentage of hired
accommodation
was approximately 80% in 1918.
Then
, it fell slightly to 78% and had a slight rise to 79% in 1953.

, it surprisingly decreased by nearly 10% in a decade until 1991 followed by a slow drop in 2001 and rose moderately in 2011.
In contrast
, owned
accommodation
has the lowest proportion with only over 20% in 2001 which is approximately a half of rented
accommodation
at that time.
