Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

While some people believe that adverts embolden us to
purchase
some items which we may not really need, others are of the opinion that publicity through advertising, gives us information about recent
products
that may be beneficial to us. In my opinion, I agree that advertisement motivates us to obtain things we don't desire and causes unnecessary expenses.
To begin
, advertising is a marketing communication that broadcasts a non-personal message to promote or sell a product, service or idea via radio, television or newspaper. Commercial advertisements often seek to generate increased consumption of their goods through branding of their
products
which creates a bigger image with certain qualities in the minds of their consumer.
For instance
, an American multinational technology company that specializes in electronic gadgets

at branding their
products
, thereby making the consumers jump at the new product and desire to change their current electronic gadget even when it's not needed. Advertising can be deceiving and sometimes, may lead to unnecessary pressure.
Furthermore
, adverts can manipulate people to spend outside their allowance. It creates a desire for more, even when one can't afford it.
For example
, my uncle who works in a small company, came across an advert on social media, for a new model Mercedes Benz,
that is
on discount. He went the extra mile to get a loan from his company, in order to
purchase
the car.
This

This
clearly shows that advertisements can make us
purchase
things we don't need at the moment. From my point of view, adverts manipulate us to

unwanted items or

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
