Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in life. What are the reasons? Is this a positive or negative trend?

In modern society, there has been an ongoing trend towards bearing
children
later in life.
This
development is caused by myriad factors and I strongly believe that the enormous benefits brought by late childbirth outweigh its demerits. There are two major reasons why some endorse delaying parenthood.
First
and foremost, as today people are investing more time in their careers, having infants can be a major distraction.
This
is especially true for some professions, whose peculiarities make having
children
not physically viable.
For example
, flight attendants are required to travel so frequently that they can ill afford to both fulfil their work and rear their babies.
Second
, the ballooning childcare costs, which would put a burden on younger couples,
also
beget the delaying of parenthood. As tuition fees and the cost of healthcare services have inexorably increased, raising a child is now a painstaking task. I opine that the advantageous effects of
this
issue infinitely overshadow its drawback. The latent risks of health problems, even death, suffered by both mothers and babies can be mitigated by recent leaps in the medical field.
Additionally
, since people have more time to establish their careers and financial stability, they can give their
children
a better life including high-quality education and better healthcare services. Another merit is that the older people are, the more life experience they gain.
Such
hands-on experience may give them greater skills in raising a well-rounded child, while bad parenting skills, which tend to be prevalent among young couples, could have an adverse bearing on the
children
. In conclusion, the pursuit of a career and escalating childcare costs are two driving factors behind postponed parenthood among modern citizens.
However
, the upsides of late childbirth are weightier than the downsides. --

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
