A college asked its graduates to give a speech to current students about their professional careers and future opportunities. You would like to participate. Write a letter and say What do you want to talk about? Why do you think students will be interested in it? Suggest a suitable date and time for your speech?
Dear Sir / Madam,
I would like to inform you that I hope to participate in the newly approached programme which I received its details through e-mail.
Firstly
, I graduated from the department of mining of the university and I am currently working as a mining engineer in one of the most reputed construction companies in the country. I hope to do my presentation regarding the current opportunities in this
field and also
specialized skills to be built up as students to reach the requirements of their hoped professional careers.
Accordingly
, I believe that almost all students in the department will be interested this
topic because it will address most of the unknown aspects which cannot be gathered from the syllabus.
I prepared to present on Change preposition
in this
next
weekend because I cannot take leave on weekdays due to my hectic workload. Please be kind enough to arrange a computer with a proper internet connection and a projector if it is unavailable in the seminar room.
Finally
, It is highly appreciated if to confirm the date as soon as possible and I thank all the committee who gave me this
great opportunity.
Thank you for your favourable reply.
Yours faithfully,

Structure your letter
A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:
- A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
- The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
- A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)
When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.
All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
