Initial signs are non-specific necrotic ulcer, which later turns into a characteristic black necrotic lesion. A literature search was performed in PubMed/Medline database using the terms “periodontal

mucormycosis

”, “rhinomaxillary

mucormycosis

” and “gingival

mucormycosis

”. A total of 35 research papers have been retrieved. Only

in the maxillary or mandibular arch were considered. A total of eleven

reports were included in the manuscript, whose main characteristics have been summarized in table 2. None of these reported
