The graph below shows how elderly people in the United States spent their free time between 1980 and 2010. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph provides information about how much free
time
was spent by elderly people in the USA. Overall
, it is obvious that all activities consumed more time
in the 2010s compared with those in 1980 except theatre.
In the 1980s, the largest proportion that the elderly people spent time
on was watching TV. After a rise to a peak at 70% in the 2000s, it dropped to 65% in the 2010s, which was surpassed by hiking in around 2005. Hiking had a continuous rise from 20% in the 1980s to 80% in the 2010s, which took first place instead
of watching TV.
Reading and surfing the internet both increased from the 1980s to the 2010s. To be exact, after a mild rise between the 1980s and 1990s, time
spent on reading dropped to 20%, which increased dramatically to 60%. While
the figure for surfing the internet kept increasing, which was slightly before the 2000s, and then
similar to reading, it increased obviously to 50% by the end of the period.
Theatre is the only one that dropped from the 1980s to the 2010s. It decreased from 50% in the 1980s to the bottom at 30% in the 1990s, before increasing again until the 2010s. However
, it was the least that elderly people spent time
on by 2010s.Submitted by gongrongrong on
