There seems to be an increasing number of serious crimes committed each year. While some think the best way is to use the death penalty as a deterrent, many people believe that other measures will be needed.

The number of major crimes reported has multiplied each year. One can say the
death
penalty
is the best punishment for these criminals, but others may believe
otherwise
. In
this
essay, I shall discuss both standpoints. One possible way to stop the number of major crimes from surging to an alarming rate is by administering heavier punishments to more serious crimes. A person charged with third-degree homicide,
for example
, should be punished fairly in accordance with the law, which is the
death
penalty
. Without enforcing strict capital punishment, more innocent people will become victims. In regard to that, the safety of the people will
also
be compromised.
On the other hand
, some people may view the
death
penalty
as inhumane and contrary to their values and beliefs.
For example
, sending offenders to prison for the rest of their lives may cause more suffering than the
death
penalty
itself.
As a result
, they will spend their whole life reflecting on their mistakes in a cell and keep on wishing to end their life.
Additionally
, the documentaries of these criminals in a cell that show how much they suffer on a daily basis are likely to raise awareness among society to obey the law. In a nutshell, both sides of
this
polarising issue have valid arguments to support their claim. The former believes in an eye for an eye
whereas
the latter believes criminals should be sentenced to life
instead
of the
death
penalty
.
