You have just read an article in a national newspaper claiming that town centres in your country all look very similar. You don’t fully agree with this opinion. Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter, say which point in the article do you agree with? Explain ways your town centre differs from most other town centres offer to give a guided tour of your town to the article’s writer.

Dear Editor, I am writing to you today in regard to an article I read in the "Daily Jang" where the publisher claimed the city centres of my country all look very similar.
While
I agree with the point that the whole
town
has various historic buildings surrounding commerce areas but I don't fully agree with the opinion that they all look similar to each other. If you look at the Garden
town
where I live, the
town
centre has a huge ground surrounded by buildings from the early 1900s. The shops are independent on the street and sell fresh produce to handicrafts and you can get essentials from these shops.
Similarly
, the Gulshan
town
centre has a more open environment where there are independent sellers on the street
while
there is a main ground with a temporary stall setup.
Although
all the centres have the same food outlets which makes them appear similar to each other at a quick glance, I invite the publisher of the article for a guided tour to know my
town
better and experience our
town
centre with the market fully set up. Best Regards, Karim Jiwani

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
