the first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The provided pie charts elucidate the usage of
energy
in Australian households and the emissions of greenhouse
gases
from them.
Looking from an overall
perspective, it is readily apparent that the highest amount
of energy
is consumed for heating purposes, however
, emissions of greenhouse
gases
are done in substantial amounts by water heating. Cooling consumes the lowest energy
and emits the least amount
of greenhouse
gases
.
The proportion of energy
consumed for heating purposes is 42%. It is followed closely by water heating at 30%, half of this
amount
is consumed by other appliances. Refrigeration, lighting and cooling consume significantly less amount
of energy
which is 7%, 4% and 2% respectively.
Analysing the chart of greenhouse
gas emissions, water heating and other appliances release exactly 50% of greenhouse
gases
which are found to be the most harmful to the environment. Heating releases 15% of greenhouse
gases
into the atmosphere. Refrigeration releases 14% of greenhouse
gases
which is double the number of energy
consumed by it. Lighting and cooling are both below 10% in the emission of environmentally harmful gases
