The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters traveling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.
The line graph compares figures for daily travel by workers in the UK in terms of three different forms of transport, namely
car
, bus
, and train over a period of 60 years.
Looking from an overall
perspective, it is readily apparent that the car
is by far the most popular means of transport for UK commuters throughout the period shown. It is also
notable that while
the number of people who use the car
and trains increased dramatically, bus
users experienced the opposite trend.
A deep analysis of the line graph provided reveals that in 1970, around 5 million
British individuals travelled by car
on a daily basis, while
the bus
and train were used by about 4 million
and 2 million
people respectively. In the next thirty years, the figure for those who travelled by car
rose to 7 million
, while
the statistic for rail passengers reached 3 million
. However
, there was a slight dip of approximately 0.5 million
in the number of bus
users.
Looking at the line in more detail, by 2030, the data for car
commuters are expected to reach its peak at around 9 million
, while
the figure for individuals travelling by train is also
predicted to rise, to nearly 5 million
. By contrast
, bus
users are predicted to witness a gradual decrease to around 3 million
