It is important for people to take risks, both in their professional lives and their personal lives. Do you think the advantages of taking risks outweigh the disadvantages? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Life is regarded as an adventure and some people believe that taking
risks
in our work and daily lives is important to us.
While
I must acknowledge that taking
risks
can bring disadvantages to some extent, I do agree that it can deliver far more benefits than we can imagine. On the one hand, the disadvantages of taking
risks
in our lives are beyond dispute. First of all, it can be harmful to our mental health. When we step into the unknown, we can be overwhelmed by all sorts of stimuli that we haven't encountered before, which can lead to stress. Aaron Antonovsky's theory suggests that being under constant stress may damage human health.
Secondly
,
risk
means that we do not know the outcome. We run the
risk
of losing everything we currently have, and a great deal of time could be wasted.
Furthermore
, we are all interconnected, so when we take
risks
, it may have an impact on others.
For example
, parents will definitely be worried about their children.
On the other hand
, I do believe that the merits of
risk
-taking cannot be simply measured in terms of value. When we step out of our comfort zone, we can see more possibilities and have a bigger picture by getting rid of the limitations we have set for ourselves. We may lose the life balance for a
while
, but we have the opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with the resources we already have.
Risk
is
also
an impetus as we are pushed to do more self-reflection and introspection, through which we can discover what really matters to us. People cannot know that their previous job is not appropriate for them unless they make the decision to take a
risk
and give themselves a brand new beginning. In conclusion, the drawbacks of
risk
-taking cannot be ignored, but I do think that taking a leap of faith in our lives is worthwhile. The advantages it brings will not disappoint us.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
