, it is evident that the rate of ownership of households grew over the given periods whereas
the significance of renting accommodation
dropped.
In 1918 renting an apartment was very popular in both countries as approximately 78% of households were rented, compared to around 23% of houses owned. While
the significance of owning an apartment began to increase in the subsequent years, renting a household on the other hand
declined gradually. In 1971 both owned and rented accommodation
recorded a similar rate of 50%. Furthermore
owing households continue to grow in importance that it even overtook rented accommodation
in 1981 by 20%.

, the rate of owing remained significant from 1981 to the end of the period, their proportion grew to about 69% by the next ten years and remain static for another decade before decreasing to around 63% in 2011. In ,contrast rented accommodation
