The two figures demonstrate the revenue gained for two agriculture products under the Fairtrade-labelled category in two years across the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden. In general, there is an increasing trend in the sales value over the five-year period except for the value of bananas in Sweden and Denmark.
While
the UK marked the highest number of coffee sales after experiencing the breakthrough, Switzerland won the top position after gaining a triple increase in that figure for bananas over the observed time. Referring to the coffee number, the Swiss imported the most for
this
commodity in 1999 at 3 million, followed by the Danish at 1.8 and the British at 1.5. The lowest figure was recorded for Swedish at 0.8 at that time.
However
, after five years, the British
then
by far surpassed both those nations to become the biggest coffee importer with a sky-rocket rise to hit 20 million, tripled Swiss revenue and 10 times compared to that number of Denmark. The others data showed a climb from 1 to 1.7 and 0.8 to 1 in Belgium and Sweden respectively. Looking at the bananas sales,
although
Switzerland maintained the leading position in terms of imported value during both reported times, tripling from 15 to 47, Britain and Belgium were successful in managing to perform the highest growth rate for that kind of fruit from 1 to 5.5 and 0.6 to 4 respectively. Contradically, the opposite trend was witnessed in Swedish and Danish where there was a decrease in the money spent on that type of fruit by about 1 million euros over the recorded period.
