The diagram displays the cycle of life of a large fish whose name is
salmon
. Overall
, salmon
's average life is about nine years and it is possible to identify four stages in its growth: eggs, fry when they are long about 3-8 cm, smolt when they are long about 12-15 cm and adult salmon
when they are long about 70-76 cm.
Their life starts with the eggs laying in the upper river, where the water is slow moving, near reeds and small rocks. After about five or six months, little fries are born that go to lower rivers where there are fast flowing and stay there for about four years transforming into smolt. As they grow they reach the open sea where they become adult salmon
.
After about five years, the adult salmon
start their voyage to freshwater rivers and, starting from the lower river return to the upper river to lay their eggs and restart the cycle. Adultadult salmon
die at the end
of this
cycle.Submitted by antodava72 on
