Last month you had an overseas holiday with some friends where you stayed at their house. They have just sent you some holiday photos. Write a letter to your friends, in your letter: •thank them for the holiday and the photos. •explain why you didn’t write earlier. •invite them to come and stay with you.
Hi Sonia and Nitesh,
I hope you both are in great health. It was great to see you
last
month.
I just wanted to say thanks for the amazing Linking Words

I spent with you guys. I got your package today morning with our pictures from Use synonyms

month. I appreciate you taking out Linking Words

for printing and send the parcel to me.
I’ve been wanting to write to you since coming back after visiting you, but I got busy catching up with pending work at my job. There have been some changes in the internal structure of the company and I needed more Use synonyms

to get a hang of things.
I’d love it if you could come and stay with us as it’s my husband’s birthday coming up in July. We can have a great Use synonyms

I can’t wait to hear from you!
With love,

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
