You are travelling next month to stay with a family you do not know as part of a language training course. Write a letter to the family to introduce yourself. In your letter, -Say when and how you will be arriving -Tell the family a little about yourself -Ask about the type of food that the family eats.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing with regard to my language training course and the three-month homestay with your family next month.
My name is Maria Do, a student at Foreign Language University in Vietnam. For your information, I will arrive at Pearson airport in the evening of July 01st, and the school will arrange for me to stay at a hotel that night,
then
, they will drive me to your house the next morning.
I am female, Vietnamese, 21 years of age and single. My hobby is Salsa dancing and travel, so I wonder if there is a Salsa club near your place, and I may also
need your recommendations of landmarks in Canada for me to travel around.
Regarding the food, as I am a vegetarian, I wonder if your family does not have meat too. I have tried a lot of Canadian salads and I love them very much, but SI can cook for myself if your type of food is different from mine.
I enclose my schedule for your convenience and look forward to seeing your family then
.
Yours faithfully,
Maria DoSubmitted by mariatuyet82 on

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
