features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The table provides data on railway systems in six cities. The comparison includes the year of operation, distance covered in kilometres and number of commuters per year expressed in millions.
Overall
, London's underground railway system was noted as the first to operate and
also
run the longest stretch.
On the contrary
, Tokyo took the lead with the most number of commuters annually. In detail, the earliest underground railway system was in London in 1863. It is followed by Paris 37 years later. The cities of Tokyo, Washington DC and Kyoto initiated theirs in 1927, 1976 and 1981, respectively. Los Angeles started its operation in 2006 and is the
last
among the mentioned cities. It is significant to note that the length of the course of the train system is not directly proportional to the total number of commuters who use them on an annual basis. For one, London's track with a distance of 394 km has an annual passenger of 775 compared to Paris with almost half of its gap only. Meanwhile, Tokyo accommodated almost 2 million travellers yearly and Paris second at 700 million lower. Kyoto was recorded with the shortest trail at 11 kilometres and less than more than two times than that of Los Angeles, and the least passengers alongside Los Angeles.
