line graph illustrates the proportions of people who came from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and
Indonesia
to Australia for studying between 1982 to 2000.
Overall
, it can be seen that the numbers increased from all four countries,
however
,
Indonesia
sent the most students among the four. In detail, Malaysians comprised the majority of the students, with more than 5000.
This
number was far higher than others, almost nothing. Apart from a small rise in the first
year
, it
then
remained roughly steady for the next seven years at 10000, when the rate rose gradually to less than 20000 in 1995. Followed after a slight fall, it finished the final
year
at around 17000. In sharp contrast to
this
, the other three countries, experience considerable growth. Singapore and
Indonesia
showed almost a similar trend, with both increasing over time. ,
while
Indonesia
experienced more growth. Over the first eleven years, they had a constant growth, reaching 10000. After that Singapore continued the steady rise whilst the number of Indonesian students skyrocketed to 25000 in 1998, before dropping to more than 20000 in the next
year
. It
then
finished the final
year
with a 1000 rise. The fourth country, Hong Kong has a fluctuating trend, with a peak at 18000 in 1997, and ending the final
year
at less than 18000.
