The maps illustrate how the first floor of a community library changed after 20 years.
Overall
, all of the rooms in the library underwent changes, either being repositioned or being replaced to make way for added amenities. Compared with 20 years ago, tables and chairs are nowhere to be seen at the centre of the Central Library. So do the non-fiction
books
for adults which used to be displayed with the fiction ones in the hallway.
Instead
, the hall is now dedicated to the display of all reference reading materials and adult fiction
books
only, with the former on the left and the latter on the right, accompanies by an information desk and some self-service machines. With the help of the automatic machines, an enquiry desk positioned near the entrance which was once used to sell tickets or to help with book returns service is no longer necessary and is replaced with a cafe now. Meanwhile, the computer room opposite is designed in place of the reading room and the one on the other side of the hall no longer contained electronic devices as it did 20 years ago. Now,
this
place is dedicated to children with the existence of fiction
books
for kids and spaces to hold storytelling events. Sofas are
also
placed here to comfort the children. The old children's
books
area now makes way for the lecture room where people who are looking for a quiet place to study could come.
