two of these countries, Italy and Portugal, showed an upward trend, others experienced a decline over time.

in the UK and Portugal were the highest and lowest emitters, respectively. With regard to the downward trend, British

were responsible for approximately 11 metric

emissions
in 1967 and

number fell gradually to almost 9 metric
tons
by 2007.

of carbon
emissions
at the beginning and
then
peaked at roughly 11 metric

. In Italy,

of carbon dioxide were nearly 4 metric

at the beginning and it rose to 8 metric

by 2007. Meanwhile, in Portugal,

were under 2 metric

in 1967 and it reached 6 metric
tons
by 2007, similar to Sweden.
