The diagram illustrates how the horse evolved within 40 million years, especially its

structure.
It is clear that
there are 4 main stages of
this
development, starting with the Eohippus at first and ending with the current horse nowadays. As can be seen, 40 million years ago, the Eohippus with a really short tail was not as big as its descendants.
Moreover
, what made it special was that its
foot
comprised 4 toes which were quite small. About 10 million years later, Mesohippus appeared with a bigger body and longer tails.
However

foot
changed as it only had 3 digits.

, in the third stage, Merychippus had the same size as the previous Mesohippus,

, the mane started to grow and the middle toe grew prominently.
