Unhealthy eating has a negative effect on both individuals and the society in which they live. Some people think that the government should tax unhealthy foods while others believe that a ‘fat tax’ is unfair and unnecessary. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Nowadays, obesity is the main cause of multiple health issues including: metabolic syndrome, diabetes and cardiac diseases. Due to unhealthy eating habits and reduced physical activity more than 35% of the world's population suffer from obesity and its complications. For this reason, some organizations urge governments to increase taxes on unhealthy food and drinks while others find such action is extremely unreasonable. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

It is argued that governments should levy a tariff on junk food because the number of health risks associated with consuming this kind of food is on the rise. This essay agrees that a higher rate of tax should be paid by fast-food companies. Firstly, alcohol and tobacco companies already pay higher taxes; secondly, higher taxes could raise prices and lower consumption.
