In some countries, secondary schools aim to provide a general education across a range of subjects. In others, children focus on a narrow range of subjects related to a particular career. Which do you think is appropriate in today's world?

People have different views with regard to the content of
education
.
While
some may argue that the government should put emphasis on professional subjects in order to enhance competitiveness, I strongly agree that it is significant to supply
students
with general
education
in
this
generation. On the one hand, so fierce is competition that most parents insist that
education
should be dedicated to improving youngsters’ ability to develop a better career path. As we know, a number of nations, inclusive of Korea and Japan, have adjusted their compulsory courses with more expertise,
such
as chemistry exhibitions, mathematics contests, and English communication classes. In
this
case,
students
can not only enhance their edges but
also
foster their abilities to cope with worldwide challenges.
Nevertheless
, in my point of view, I consider that career-oriented
education
can be drawn in university schooling. With exam-oriented
education
, most
students
do not make sure what they are interested in or which fields they possess talent.
According to
BBC’s research, over 75% of graduates do not know what they want to do after school
education
. In
this
context, if the government provide wide-ranged subjects to teenagers, they can take advantage of these opportunities to explore their interests and gifts. Afterwards, it would lead to long-term influence on them. In conclusion,
although
globalization accelerates competition between different countries, the government cannot ignore the importance of wide-ranged general
education
. With
this
method,
students
can explore their gifts and take advantage of them in their future careers.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
