The pie chart below represents the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The bar chart shows how these causes affected three regions of the world in the 1990s. Summarise the data by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie chart illustrates the percentage of factors causing
land
degradation in the 1990s in the world; the bar chart provides information about the size of land
destruction by region
in the same period.
overall
, we can see that the two most common causes of land
degradation were deforestation and over-grazing accounting for almost three quarters. In terms of region
, Europe was the most affected region
with almost a quarter of their area being affected.
According to
the pie chart, almost 75% of land
destruction worldwide in 1990 was caused by over-grazing and deforestation, which accounted for 34.0% and 30% respectively. Another two causes were over-cultivation which contributed to 28% and salinization accounting for 8% of the total.
As mentioned above, Europe was the region
that had been affected the most; almost a quarter of their lands were degraded mostly by salinization (8.45%). Interestingly, albeit salinization was the fewest cause of land
destruction around the world, it became the number one cause in Europa. The next regions affected were Oceania and North America which had their land
destructed by almost 15% and 10% respectively.Submitted by irarahmawati.polkesma on
