Your friend invited you to his/her birthday, but you are unable to attend. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter explain why you cannot go explain why you didn’t contact him/hear sooner suggest another time and place to meet

Dear Meha, How's going? Hope you are well and still enjoying your time at university. How are you going on in your current subject? I told you that one is tough to crack. Didn't I? Believe me, when I received your invitation to your birthday party I was delighted to meet you soon. In fact, I cannot wait to see you.but what a nightmare
this
time I am not able to attend your party. Actually, my employer is holding a training programme on the very same day and
this
is important I cannot back off. They would not give me any hours if I would not finish
this
training. You know very well how it is hard to get jobless in
this
period of recession. I have no option left but to stick with
this
job. So sorry, it's all a bit
last
minute. I would let you know soon as I had known it. I am still pissed that I am not able to see you and celebrate your special day with you. If it is ok with you. We can meet up next month as I can come and stay for at least two days. I have already checked the weather it is going to be sunny for a whole week. So, It would not trouble us. I promise we will spend time together. Do you reckon your favourite restaurant in the town ? They have been serving new addition to their menu.will go there too. Let me know ASAP what's best for you. Love to see you for coffee and catch up. Yours lovingly, Payal

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
