You have recently started work in a new company. Write a letter to an English-speaking friend. In your letter ● explain why you changed jobs ● describe your new job ● tell him/her your other news.

Dear Jonh, It’s been a
while
. How’re Lily and the kids? Anyway, I just wanted to drop you a line that I changed my job a few weeks ago and I’d like to share the news with you. As you might know, I’ve been working in my previous company for almost ten years and I was sick of commuting to work for about an hour a day so I decided to get a new one which is located close to my home. So that I can have more time to focus on my family and take care of my kid better, though, that said, the new job’s a bit challenging. My new company is an IT international business, located in a build-up area of Guangzhou. My role is still a sales manager and I enjoy being in
this
position a lot because I love leading teams and mentoring new employees. I’m definitely much happier with my new job. I got another piece of news to share with you. My daughter, who, by the way, sends her love, has just graduated from high school and got to a college to learn about computer science next month in Beijing. Her university is a superior one and I was so excited about it. Once again, I'm thrilled about my new job and my daughter's accomplishments. I can't wait to catch up with you soon and share more of our stories. Looking forward to staying in touch Take care, Regina

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
