the diagram shows of a components of a neuron and how it works
The image describes each part of a neuron and its functionalities. In general, each component has a different function, starting from the Cell body,
Dendrites
, Axon
, Action Potential, Myelin sheath, and Terminal button.
A neuron is composed of a cell body or soma, it is located in the middle and surrounded by dendrites
. Dendrites
have the responsibility to receive signals from other cells. The appearance of dendrites
is like some trees without any leaf, it has a lot of branches that look like hair.
When dendrites
receive a message, it will forward the message to Axon
. Then
, the Axon
will continue to deliver this
message to other neurons with the help of an electric signal from Action Potential. As a delivery agent, Axon
needs to be protected and the one who protects Axson is Myelin sheath. As a protector, Myelin will act as a blanket for the Axon
and also
help to increase the speed of neural impulses.
The last
part of a neuron is the Terminal buttons. This
part has the ability to become a bridge between neurons with other cells. It will communicate with dendrites
from other neurons.Submitted by misstiasclassroom on
