Coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five cities in Australia

The bar chart below shows the
percentage
of
coffee
and
tea
consumption habits in the
last
4 weeks in five different Australian
cities
(
Sydney
,
Melbourne
,
Brisbane
,
Adelaide
and
Hobart
). In general, going to a cafe to drink
coffee
or
tea
was the most common habit, except in
Adelaide
where less than 50% of the residents do so.
In addition
, the
percentage
of
people
buying instant
coffee
there was higher compared to the other
cities
in the habit of going to cafés mostly. In
Sydney
and
Melbourne
, the
percentage
of
people
drinking
tea
or
coffee
in a café was around 61% in
Sydney
, but slightly higher in
Melbourne
at around 63%. Meanwhile, over 45% of
people
in
Sydney
and
Melbourne
were in the habit of buying instant
coffee
,
while
the proportions of those buying fresh
coffee
in these two
cities
were around 44% and 43% respectively. Looking at the remaining
cities
,
Hobart
had the highest proportion of
people
drinking
coffee
or
tea
in a cafe, followed by
Brisbane
and
Adelaide
with around 51% and 49% respectively. At the same time, about 53 per cent of
people
in
Brisbane
and
Hobart
chose to buy instant
coffee
, compared to almost 50 per cent of
people
in
Adelaide
.
Finally
, there was a close similarity in the
percentage
of
people
buying fresh
coffee
in
Brisbane
and
Adelaide
, at around 34%,
while
the figure in
Hobart
was higher at around 38%.
