The table illustrates the pricing structures and the average bills per family in several
cities
in Australia. As observed from the table, there are two opposite pricing methods of how their regulators charge their
water
supply.
Cities
such
as Adelaide and Perth adopt hierarchical pricing strategies, offering lower prices for families consuming
water
less than 125 kiloliters and significantly higher rates for surpassing the threshold. Opposite to
this
method is the flat-rate pricing approach, implemented by Melbourne and Sydney.
This
strategy allows similar
water
prices for all consumption levels. Brisbane City follows the same path as the latter
cities
but with adjustments to higher prices for residents who consume more than 125 kiloliters. In terms of average bill per household, four of five
cities
experienced relatively similar amounts, ranging from 310 - 330 Australian Dollars. The exception would be Melbourne, where the families receive less
water
bills compared to the other
cities
.
