Generally, this
process is cyclic and composed of six stages in both areas
, four of them take place above the ground
and two are under the ground

This
cycle starts from the precipitation process, which remains the same in forested and urban places. After rainfall, there is the process of infiltration, where water
propagates the permeable topsoil and less permeable subsoil on rocks. As water
reaches the water
table, it couples with baseflow and flows to the ground
, where it couples with runoff
. In urban areas
, the processes of infiltration and the level of baseflow are reduced and lead to increased erosion.
The stages above the ground
include evaporation, transpiration and runoff
. While
transpiration in forested areas
remains the most significant amount of water
, which returns to the air, evaporation and runoff
are the least considerable. However
, these stages in urban places are reduced, and there is an increase in pollution of runoff
