, it is evident that the amount of traditional families
with both parents and dependent children
decreased over the years.
Compared to 1984, when slightly over half of all people in Canada had dependent children
in one-family households, in 2020 these amounts dropped to 36 per cent
respectively. In contrast

tend to have no children
more often. The percentage of this
increased by 6 per cent
in the period given. However
, the percentage of non-dependent children
in families
remained relatively steady and fluctuated slightly decreasing to 9% in 2020.
Surprisingly, the amount of single-person households doubled throughout the period from 6 to 12 per cent
