Dear Sir, I am writing
this
letter in reference to a request
that is
made in the National newspaper about contributions from its readers for an article, as I am interested in contributing about the facts in a
book
that had an influence on me. Beginning with the
book
,
this
book
was written in the 1990s, and it was about the transformation of a country from a third-world status to a first-world status during a span of one generation.
Furthermore
, it outlines the importance of governing a country based on the MPH formula - Meritocracy, Pragmatism and Honesty. As much as I have enjoyed reading
this
book
, it
also
had an influence on my personal life as well.
Firstly
,
this
book
has assisted me in realizing the benefits of recruiting the correct person to do the job at work, and not being biased based on emotions or personal preferences.
Moreover
,
this
quality has helped me to manage my teams in an effective way. Thereby, gaining the respect among the peers that I associate with. Touching the essence of
this
book
,
this
book
has impacted many individuals in a positive way because of the building blocks that it highlights which are necessary to develop as a person starting from scratch.
Thus
, writing about
this
book
in your article would allow you to carry the essence of
this
book
to a larger community. I look forward to hearing from you, and if you need any
further
information, please do not hesitate to contact me, as I will be pleased to supply it. Yours faithfully, Isuru Bandara

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
