coherence cohesion
Ensure that the letter follows a clear logical structure, with appropriate use of linking words and paragraphs to improve cohesion and readability.
greeting and closing
Make sure the greeting is consistent with the closing style; begin with 'Dear Sir/Madam,' and end with 'Yours sincerely' if you do not know the name, or 'Yours faithfully' if you know the name of the person (Mr. Smith, for example).
single idea per paragraph
Try to maintain one central idea per paragraph, which you have done reasonably well. However, make sure each paragraph smoothly transitions to the next to improve the flow of the letter.
task achievement
Provide a full response to the task by ensuring all parts of the prompt are clearly addressed with sufficient detail.
suitable writing tone
The tone of your writing is generally suitable for a formal complaint letter, remaining polite and formal throughout. Maintain this tone consistently.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
