The charts below show the proportion of holidaymakers using four different types of accommodation in three different years.
The pie charts illustrate the percentage of accommodation types used by tourists in 1988, 1998, and 2008.
Overall
,
it is clear that
in three different years, the majority of people chose to stay with their family and friends,
whereas
camping became the least favourable option.
To begin
with, it can be seen that staying with family and friends became top of mind for accommodation during holidays throughout the years. In 1988 and 1998, the proportion of
this
category remained the same at around 52% - 54%.
However
, in 2008, its trend dropped to 44% but still became the highest proportion compared to the others.
Similarly
, the camping option
also
experienced a downward trend. It was quite popular in 1988, which accounted for 26%, yet it decreased to 12% in 2008 and was marked as the least favourable alternative.
On the contrary
, rented apartments and hotels shared different patterns compared to the other two categories. For the rented apartments option, it began at only 7% in 1988. It grew considerably to 11% in 1998, and it managed to double to 22% in the finished period.
Likewise
, the hotels category only started at 15% in the initial year.
However
, it climbed up to 22% in 1998 and remained stable in 2008.
