The line graph presents the proportion of inhabitants staying in cities in the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia between 1970 and 2020, with a projection for the next 20 years.

, it is apparent that all figures witnessed an upward trend with a slight difference in pattern. Residing in cities is widely popular in Malaysia and least preferred in Thailand.

, an increasing number of citizens are projected to settle in urban areas by 2040. Having uniform patterns, the figures for Malaysia and Indonesia commenced at 30% and 15%, climbing to 45% and just over 20% respectively from 1970 to 1990.

, the percentage of both rose exponentially and surpassed the other two countries to culminate at the estimation of 80% and 60% each in 2040. Being levelled off in 1970 at around 30%, the figure for the Philippines grew steeply to just under 50% in 1990. It later decreased to 40% and steadily increased to reach 60% in 2040. Meanwhile, around 20% of Thailand's population inhabited urban areas in 1970. The percentage grew to 30% in 1990 and remained around that level until 2020 before facing an estimated surge to reach around 50% in 2040.
