The given chart illustrates the changes in ownership of electrical devices and the total sum of time spent on housework in families in a particular country, in the period 1920 to 2019.
Overall
, it can be seen that
although
the percentage of every electrical appliance grew during the period, the refrigerator experienced the most significant increase.
Conversely
, the amount of time spent on home duties, including washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning declined. As far as the proportion of households with electrical devices is concerned, from 1920 to 1960 the number of refrigerators rocketed, from 0% in the first
year
to nine times more in 1960.
Similarly
, the percentage of washing machines and vacuum cleaners saw an increase, yet more gradual than refrigerators, from 30% and 40%, respectively, to 70% in 1960. After that, the number of washing machines balanced between 70% and 80%,
however
the figure for refrigerators and vacuum cleaners rose gradually for the remainder of the period, equalized in 2000 at 100% and maintained at
this
level until the final
year
. With regards to the number of hours spent on housework per week,
although
it stood at 50% in 1920, it significantly declined to 20% in 1960.
This
pattern continued
year
after
year
,
however
it was more gradual.
Finally
, in 2019, it came to its lowest point of slightly more than 10%.
