The table and chart illustrate how and where 1600
students
in Australia used computers
from 2001 to 2002.
By and large, it is evident that there was a considerable increase in the usage of online facilities and the Internet
for assignment submissions, and students
mostly used their computers
at home.
In 2001, 1038 students
, accounting for 65 per cent of the total number of 1600 students
participating in the survey, used online facilities. However
, only 20 per cent used the internet
to hand in their work. By 2002, the number of people utilizing the internet
skyrocketed to 96 per cent while
the figure for those submitting their work via the Internet
experienced an almost five-fold growth to 1568 students
.
As can be seen from the bar chart, there was a dramatic rise in the number of students
using their computers
at home, from 800 in 2001 to more than 1200 in 2002. In contrast
, the usage of computers
at university experienced a slight decline to 350, while
the figure for those who did not possess a computer plummeted from just under 400 to only around 50 in 2002.Submitted by weezel on
