Today, we live in an era of continuously increasing
consumer
demand.
This
rate of consumption is increasing at an alarming rate.
This
essay shall deal with the causes of increased
production
of
goods
and how it affects the environment and suggest some ways forward. The growing population is the primary reason for
consumer
goods
production
. As people increase, so does demand.
Furthermore
, globalization allows people to access choices. When they find a new product, they want it too.
Additionally
, people’s purchasing power has increased
due to
developing economies.
Lastly
, manufacturers often produce cheaper
consumer
goods
without compromising quality, resulting in the need to discard them after a short period of use. The
production
and disposal of short-lived
consumer
goods
contribute to more
waste
, which
further
exacerbates environmental degradation. Improper
waste
disposal can lead to air and water pollution.
Waste
in landfills and incineration facilities
also
releases emissions that contribute to climate change.
Consumerism
suffers severe consequences. By 2050, urban
waste
production
is expected to increase by 70%, which will exacerbate the landfill crisis caused by non-biodegradable
waste
in landfills. Polluting materials
such
as lead, mercury, and poisonous gases,
along with
the destruction and recycling of plastic, contribute to environmental degradation. To reduce the damage caused by
consumerism
, people must be educated about its devastating consequences, encouraged to purchase only necessary items, and encouraged to use biodegradable materials. Industries should adopt alternative energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint, and proper
waste
disposal methods must be implemented. In Sweden, the use of biodegradable packaging materials has resulted in a 30% reduction in non-recyclable
waste
, demonstrating the potential for positive change through concerted efforts. Summing up,
consumerism
is rampant nowadays and has a detrimental effect on our environment, but steps can be taken to minimize the harmful effects of excessive
consumerism
.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
